We move a day early at 6:30 PM from Cairo, arriving at 12 AM at Sarabeit El Khadeim, so we can get some good sleep before we start our hike.

After breakfast, we take a 4x4 car heading towards our trailhead. We ascend, exploring the ancient mines and the city of Um Bogma. We have our lunch there and then descend back towards Wadi El Shlal were we set up camp for the night.

Today, we walk through and explore multiple valleys, starting with Wadi Saho, Wadi Zahlouka, Balaa well, and Wadi Balaa, where we set up camp next to Jebal Um El Reglen.

We head towards the trailhead of the ruins of the Sarabeit El Khadiem temple, an ancient site that managed to keep its place in the middle of the Sinai desert. After that, we head back towards the camp where it all started for one last lunch before heading back towards Cairo. We move around 3 PM, arriving back in Cairo around 7 PM.

Accommodation

The Bedouins usually sleep under the stars. They call it the million-star hotel. We will be camping in the wilderness – by camping, we also mean that our water resource is minimal, so expect no showers, and nature calls are responded to in nature – no toilets. Every hiker should pack their tent and a warm sleeping bag that would be suitable for this trip, with a comfort temperature of 5 degrees. We also recommend using a sleeping bag liner or just wearing more warm layers while sleeping for people who still feel cold. Sleeping bags can be big, bulky, and weighty, so get the smallest, lightest model you can. Remember, the weather in Sinai at night is colder than what most people would expect, especially if they are not familiar with it.
