The best season for Slovenia is during summer months, specifically from June to August, where temperatures are relatively high and you can enjoy a dip in the many lakes there. However, many of Slovenia’s attractions, including the capital, are just as enjoyable outside the peak summer months, and in particular during spring and autumn, when the countryside colours are at their most resplendent and the crowds are a little thinner.
We will spend 5 nights in 3-star hotels and 2 nights in mountain huts in rooms for 4, 6 or 12 people. The huts offer food and drinks and provide beds with blankets and “single use” paper bed sheets. Therefore, it is recommended to bring your own cotton sleeping bag liner. Although it is not possible to have single rooms in the huts, the communal life will be enjoyed much enjoyed!
During the trip we will try some delicious Slovenian food. You will taste some typical Alpine dishes and the best meals of the wine region. On the days when we sleep in the mountain huts, the food offer is more simple and limited but still tasty and delicious.
The hike itself is technically non-demanding but it requires a reasonable fitness level. Expect to be hiking around 5-6 hours daily with an average altitude gain of 700m everyday. The tour is also appropriate for children if they are fit enough.
Being on the coast of the Mediterranean and also having a great part of the Julian Alps, Slovenia has a very diverse scenery. We’ll be hiking in alpine meadows, forests neighboring calm rivers, underground caves, islands among lakes and ever flowering pastures.
We have all our transportation in a private van that our guide drives. The van is always available to us throughout the itinerary (a van for 8 people). In case of bad weather, when we cannot make the 3-day hut-to-hut hike, we will move by van to other places and will make other hikes less conditioned by the weather.
