We meet at 7 AM at the bus meeting point to reach Wadi El Rayan by 10:30 AM. Wasting no time at all, we warm up with a quick, 2-km hike. Afterward, we’ll pick up our kayaks and carry them for 500 meters until we reach the showers, where we’ll take a quick break by the lake. Once we are ready to get ourselves wet, we will set our compass southwest to Jebal El Modawara and go straight into the water. We should row with an average pace of 3.5-4.5 km/hr to our destination within a maximum of 2 hours. The duration and level of difficulty of this activity, in particular, will depend on the weather conditions of the day. If we’re lucky to get calm, smooth weather, we’ll enjoy a quick lunch in the middle of the water. Later on, we head to the campsite, set up camp, freshen up, and spend a serene night taking in the scenery.
Pumped from our kayaking experience on the first day, we take a step further on our second day. After a nutritious breakfast, we head to the lake, aiming to reach its most southern part. While kayaking for 9km south of the canals, we may be lucky enough to bump into the flamingos and other birds that take shelter on the islands found in the lake. By lunchtime, we will stop to enjoy a one-hour picnic on one of these islands amidst the enchanting blue waters of the lake. After reaching the shore, we'll rinse ourselves off of the salty water before hiking 4 km to reach our campsite.
A trip to Fayoum is not complete without visiting Tunis Village. So, on our third and last day, we have breakfast together at the campsite and start packing. We then hike for 5 km to reach our bus, to take us to Tunis Village for a heartwarming lunch. As the trip comes to an end, we jump on the bus and head back to Cairo. We should reach our drop-off point in Cairo between 5 to 7 PM at the latest

Accommodation

Like the bedouins who sleep under the stars in the desert, we will be camping in the wilderness in tents. Sleeping Bags A warm sleeping bag would be suitable for these destinations with comfort temperature of 0-5 degrees. We also recommend using sleeping bag liner or just wearing more warm layers when sleeping for people who'd still feel cold. Sleeping bags can be big, bulky, and weighty, so get the smallest, lightest model you can. Remember, the weather in the desert is colder than what most people would expect, especially if they are not familiar with it.

Weather

The weather is usually hot to moderate in the morning and cold to very cold at night, but it depends on the time of the year. Rain is also very likely during the winter months so make sure you pack enough rainproof gear. We will also check the weather forecast closer to the date of the trip and inform you in case of any changes.
