Geography

History

In 1502, Christopher Columbus discovered this beautiful island and spent 18 days there and it became a Spanish colony in 1524. In 1821, Costa Rica declared its independence from Spain. A strong agricultural country that was famed for its tobacco and cocoa beans.

As a result of the immigration of Spaniards, their 16th-century Spanish culture and its evolution marked everyday life and culture until today, with Spanish language and the Catholic religion as primary influences.
