What's next

Once you’ve successfully completed this climb, you will have gained the necessary experience to climb on Mt. Elbrus, Island Peak, Gran Paradiso, and Stok Kangri.

We’re getting picked up from the airport and taken to the Arusha Hotel (1,254 m). Make sure you arrive early because there’s a lot to get done. Once we’ve had a chance to settle in, the guides will arrange a final briefing and gear check to make sure that we are all ready before the start of the climb the next day.
From Arusha we set out in vehicles to the starting point of the Lemosho trail. Here you meet the rest of your crew and set of at a leisurely pace into afromontane forest. Lunch is taken on trail and camp is reached mid afternoon. Overnight Forest Camp
From the forested slopes of Lemosho you ascend through Podocarpus and Juniper forest and break out of the forest on to the heath zone and the Shira Plateau. Lunch is taken on trail and you arrive in camp mid afternoon. Overnight Shira 1 Camp
After a relatively long hike and significant altitude gain, today is a short day and you arrive in Moir camp in time for lunch. A good day for acclimatisation with the option of an afternoon walk with your guides. Overnight Moir Camp
The route today diverges from the traditional western routes and head north and then east around the Kibo Massif. Here, for the time being at least, there are relatively few other groups. You hike through the alpine desert skirting the edge of the heath zone to Pofu camp. Most groups arrive for lunch and then take an afternoon acclimatisation hike. Overnight at Pofu camp
From Pofu you hike a ridge and continue around the Kibo massif to Cave 3 skirting the edge of the heath zone. Once at Cave 3 there is time to rest and a short acclimatisation walk in the late afternoon. Overnight at Cave 3
From Cave 3 you continue around the north and eastern flanks of Kibo and arrive into School Hut in time to check through your gear for the summit bid. After an early dinner you retire for some sleep. Dinner and overnight School Hut
Rising early normally before midnight you start out from School hut towards the peak. At night time the scree sections are normally much firmer and the night time start enables the best chance of a clear summits attempt. It takes around 6 hours to reach Gilman’s point and then a further 11/2 to 2 hours to reach Uhuru Peak alt 5945m - the highest free standing point in the world and the highest point in Africa. You then descend the same route before a short stop at Kibo hut for a food refuel and rest. By the evening you descend back down to Horombo hut for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Horombo Hut
The final descent takes you back through the heath zone and forest to the Marangu gate -Alt1,970m. Here you are met by drivers and transferred back to your hotel for a well deserved shower and celebratory dinner. Overnight in hotel in Arusha
After breakfast and depending on the time of your flight, you will be taken to the airport for your flight back home

Weather

Mount Kilimanjaro is an extremely large geological structure, therefore it creates its own weather. Although, we can make predictions based on previous weather cycles, things can change on the mountain itself very quickly and therefore we must always be prepared. January to March January through to March is the first dry season on Kilimanjaro, making it a great time to trek. This time of the year tends to be colder than the June to October trekking season and you have a much higher chance of encountering snow on the upper reaches. The lower slopes are usually covered in cloud during this time of the year, and if you encounter rain it will likely only be on the lower slopes. Above 3,000m the skies are usually crystal clear and rain is rare. April & May These are usually the wettest months and not ideal for trekking. June to October Encountering rain or snow is rare. Warm sunny days, cold and dry nights. November & December November is slightly rainy on the mountain and is not the most ideal time for trekking but still doable. December can also be a bit wet and is usually very cold on the summit. If you plan to trek during these months it is very important that you have good rain gear, and the correct layered clothing for the summit.

Terrain

Mount Kilimanjaro is made up of five distinct ecosystems, meaning the terrain changes dramatically the higher up you go. Expect to walk through muddy trails, dense forests, boulder fields, and light snow (in winter months). Expect 5 to 7 hiking hours per day.

Food

All three meals are cooked by our very own cook on the mountain, while all dietary requirements are catered for. All meals give you the required nutrients you need for the climb and they are delicious too!

Accomodation
